The Las Vegas Metro Police Department, in partnership with the New York State Department of Corrections has created The Las Vegas Targeted Kids Program. This program was established as a collaborative project among the Las Vegas Police Department and Department of Corrections. This program provides a program that will be of help to the young kids of the Las Vegas area. The purpose of the Program is to intervene and reduce the occurrence of juvenile delinquency. The project may work with school personnel, youth, and community members to prevent the occurrence and severity of such incidents as are found on school property or in the community. In cases where there is an incident that warrants intervention and prevention, a team of personnel is immediately dispatched to the affected property, usually located somewhere off the Strip, or directly in front of a business that is associated with gangs or youth violence. Once there, the police will be able to speak to the youth directly, or to have a police Officer with us conduct a meeting in which the youth can address their concerns in an open conversation with a trained and trained staff member. While the school staff are able to intervene directly, the youth that the Police are working with may be unable to go into the school to speak to them directly. Because the Program works at the school level, rather than at the school building itself, it enables the staff to work directly with the young people. The staff that work with them also receive intensive training in the juvenile justice fields.
